So what’s the deal?

Hi! I’m Isadora, I’m a first year in college, and this is my high school independent study that I’ve decided to continue as a passion project (not for credit). My goal is to translate as much Latin as possible this year, and you get to be along for the ride. I’ll be updating monthly, if not more, and every post will have Latin, my translation, and my thoughts! I started with Pliny last fall, moved to Supicia, and finished with Catullus and Virgil. My initial hope for this project was to look for intersectionality in Roman and North African history through Pliny, but that plan was quickly abandoned in favor of translating love poetry. Perhaps I will return to that at points this year, but likely this will be used as a way to derive enjoyment from translation, rather than being stuck in the routine of my current Latin class. Nothing against my Latin class of course! But sometimes when you have to do things for school they start being less fun, and I’d like that to not happen with Latin.
